Recently I was temporarily banned by the matchmaking system by Bungie because I had quit too many games. The only reason why i have quit games is because of players cheating. No body wants to play with cheaters, so what are we supposed to do? Just wait until they win? I’m in favor of leaving and moving onto another match right away. Otherwise that’s no fun! You can try to win and maybe get lucky but most of the time it’s just frustrating. Also, there is the problem of consistency. How is it that one game that two players and snipe each other like two can pummel each other to death at the same time and then another game I for instance pull the trigger and nothing happens and I end up being sniped at least a half second later. That should have been a snipe for both of us.
Too many players quit in halo MP matches and it’s annoying.

I just finished a game with a friend playing in the Action Sack playlist and, upon backing out of the lobby to do something else, I got a pop-up saying I was banned for a week. Nothing else was mentioned.
It didn’t make sense because there was no reason for the ban. I didn’t disconnect prematurely or anything that might warrant a ban. I don’t know why it happened but I was curious if this has happened to anyone else here in the Halo community? It was super weird and not sure if it’s a bug or not. Showing 1 – 13 of 13 comments. Ban duration will be shown in the message that appears as the ban hammer strikes.
First offenses are generally low and last only a few minutes. Note that each ban will increase in duration incrementally with each subsequent ban. If you don’t have a quit within a 3 hour period, then you will reset back to the first step on the ban ladder. There is still a record of how many quits you have, but it is not used in this automated system.

A ban is the denial of a person or group’s access to a service or resource. Bans are typically enacted by people in positions of authority in response to rule violations committed by an individual. The ability to ban is sometimes satirically referred to as “the banhammer “. In the Halo community, bans are administered by Bungie staff members when users break the rules for in-game conduct. Furthermore, the term “Banhammer” takes on a new meaning in the context of Halo gameplay.
Bungie’s banning system, commonly referred to as the “Banhammer”, is an advanced anti-cheat mechanism used to regulate user activity in Halo 3. A July Weekly Update stated that the system was being upgraded; the same update announced that the presence of modded content on a File Share would result in a ban. It also may have hinted at the then-unfinished “Ultra Ban”. A Bungie Weekly Update in August announced that the Banhammer was upgraded with new features designed to crack down on File Share violations.
The update also elaborated on specific File Share-related rule violations. Halo 3′ s September Title Update introduced the “Ultra Ban”, which was applied retroactively to those who had committed severe rule violations in the past; the ban is documented in more detail in its section below. Various other anti-cheat systems were also introduced, though they were not elaborated on; an additional weekly update identified the system as “Banhammer 2.
The Banhammer is capable of administering bans automatically and it keeps extensive records both when a ban is administered and during the course of normal gameplay; records taken in the latter instance can then be analyzed to detect cheat-related behaviors.

I would also like to broaden my examples, and note where some new games are getting better at this. And yet this is a game that they designed that does absolutely nothing to fix either of these issues. And whilst every new balance patch might be nice, none of this will matter to your average player. Valve, you need to patch in some skill and social matchmaking!
And of course, there are numerous alternative ways to make a lot of money out of doing this, above and beyond just selling lots of games.

Why did they add this?? They added during Halo 3 because people were quitting to increase losses to make booster accounts. They kept it in Reach because people like to quit just to tick people off. Also, it ruins the game when people quit out just because they are losing. If you cannot adapt, then you die.

Ofc you should be allowed to switch team once in a while to join friend’s team for example or quit if you must, but there is no penalty what so ever for doing it, except for maybe battlepack progression etc. This is definetly an issue in my opinion. It breaks fair game’s. Go and watch your stats, where is the quit rate?
Why do they remove these things? I would vote for some kind of penalty system, i have no idea how it would work, but there’s gotta be something they could do. Most players don’t even care about stats anymore.
